Lihan’s Breath of life

Lihan Smit was diagnosed at the age of 6 months with a generic disease called cystic fibrosis. (Also known as “65 Roses”)

Unaware of what this disease entails we came to the shocking conclusion that he needs continuous medical assistance such as vitamins monthly check-ups, physio and neubulization, yearly blood tests and other medication such as Creons and ultimately the fear of having to lose your son.

This obviously becomes costly and the medical bills hit the roof.
Medical aid can only carry the medical bills for so long and obviously you have to resubmit for ex gratia, as your savings also runs out quicker than expected.
By religiously maintaining his medical needs, Lihan is in a good space currently. Now we all pray for a cure or remedy for the disease, and that is where Trikafta comes in.

An extremely expensive miracle drug that, does not cure but significantly prolongs Little Lihan’s life.

Not all medical aids cover the cost, and some only cover a fraction. We are fortunate enough to have support in order to be supplied with Trikafta  but on a month to month basis but the surety of this throughout the future is unknown.

Lihan’s life has visibly improved over the last two months and therefore we need to do whatever we can in order to maintain his health sustainably.
