Hello! My name is Sarah!

I am a dancer at heart and always will be! In recent months my life has taken a dramatic turn. I have had my most fond dream of being able to dance and teach ballet to little girls taken away from me due to my health being unstable.

Shortly after I informed the schools that I was unable to teach anymore I had a parent of one of my students, a dietitian, reach out to me in concern. She said it sounded very much like Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic life-threatening disorder that damages the lungs and digestive system. Despite a heavy life long diagnosis she said there is a wonderful life changing medication named Trikafta helping many Cystic Fibrosis patients live almost normally and I should get tested if there is a chance I could experience some relief.

I believe my prayers for my health were answered that day and this is what I needed all along. If I hadn’t made that faith based decision to look after my health and put a pause on teaching, I wouldn’t have had these amazing moms and friends reach out to me. God has opened a door when it felt like one was closing. I have since been confirmed for CF and with my lungs on the level of needing a transplant and my organs continuing to damage it is becoming increasingly difficult to digest food resulting in weight loss, continuous coughing and many other symptoms. There are days where the simplest of tasks can be challenging. Although I have tried to make the most of life with humour and a cheery disposition in all the coughing, fatigue and frequent infections, I am at a critical point with my health. With my lung function down to 18% and my weight at its lowest, I am in urgent need medical care.
Trikafta would be life changing for me but unfortunately there is a 24 month waiting period on my medical aid and it is simply unaffordable out of pocket.

If you are in the position to give and you feel it on your heart, please make a donation
No amount is too small, even if you can just share this page with family and friends it will be so appreciated. Thank you to each and every one who is supporting me on this journey! You are changing my life!

Update 20 February 2026:

I went to see Dr Baird not too long ago and I am still stable and all is well.

My weight is steady. And my lung function went up by another 1%. Small improvements but still thankful to be at 37% now.

The exciting part is that we applied for Trikafta session!

Our funding isn’t at full yet but for now it will surfice. And we are working on things in the pipeline to ensure I can stay on it until Discovery will pay for it.

I have been busy with lots of paperwork and things moved quite quickly. But it has paid off…..Because I received my first box of Trikafta this week!

I will be seeing Dr Baird again soon to run through the ins and outs of Trikafta.

I am just waiting for the right time to start so I can take the week off work. Which will probably be around the beginning of March.
I may or may not be admitted to hospital depending on whether Discovery will cover it. If not, I will just have a session with the Physiotherapist everyday to help ease the transition.

Thank you to each and everyone of you for the continued prayers and support, it has gotten me to where I am. You all have a special place in my heart!
